Big Boost to Delhi public transport:  DTC to purchase 1,000 new buses New Delhi: June 21: Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Wednesday said that DTC will procure 1,000 new standard floor, non-AC buses and will also take care of maintenance on its own. The decision was taken in a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) board meeting on Tuesday. "We haven't purchased any new buses in the past two-three years and this was needed to strengthen the public transport system," said Gahlot, adding that the buses are expected to start arriving before the end of the current financial year.

(An estimated cost of Rs 140 crore) The DTC will appoint the Bid Process Manager through open tender enquiry. The objective of this decision is to instill a sense of security in the minds of women commuters and to ensure their safe travel in public service buses. Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has recommended detailed specifications for CCTV cameras under the project “National Level Vehicle Security and Tracking System”. Forest & Wildlife Department sets a target of planting one million saplings in Delhi this year New Delhi: 20/06.2017: Forest Minister Mr Imran Hussain  on Tuesday  asked the department to achieve the target of planting one million saplings across Delhi during this year to increase the green cover, since pre-Monsoon showers have set in Delhi and it is expected that soil moisture level will now be maintained till the ensuing Monsoon season. The Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, has fixed the target of tree plantation of 8.26 lakh in the year 2017-18 for Delhi.   The officers of Forest Department informed the Minister that the target has been given to agencies to achieve tree plantation of 10 lakh saplings instead of 8.26 lakh.   Department of Forests and Wildlife will be planting around four lakh saplings besides arranging free distribution of seedlings during the Monsoon season to ensure tree plantation on all available lan...
